Karaoke in Zhemgang gives residents options for entertainment

Zhemgang also has a Karaoke bar now. While this might not qualify as news, it is worth all the while for some residents in the district. Zhemgang has not many options when it comes to entertainment. The new Karaoke Bar opened last week has given the residents a respite from their busy lives.

Tenzin Kinjom started her Karaoke bar on the outskirt of Zhemgang town. The 27-year-old left her job to venture into this business. She says it was very difficult for her to meet the required standard of an entertainment centre. According to her, she invested about Nu 1 M to fully set up and make her Karaoke bar operational.

“After resigning from my job, I felt it was not good to remain idle at home. I also saw a news piece in the media stating that people out here need an entrainment centre. So, I immediately took a decision to open a karaoke bar where I thought, it could serve people’s purpose for a good cause and mine too,” she said.

Today, she has a considerable number of patrons for her business. It is the first Karaoke bar in the entire Zhemgang town.

“When we are bored, it is good to come here. Before, we pass our free time by witnessing local sporting events, watching TV and simply staying idle at home. However, now we occasionally come here and enjoy,” said Dawa Tshering, in Zhemgang.

“This is part of our new development in Zhemgang and also we cannot compare the past and present world because it has totally changed. We need such recreational centres. So, I feel the modern world needs all sorts of centres and people required to live happily unlike in the past,” added Nima Wangchuk, also in Zhemgang.

Most of Kinjom’s customers are housewives and office-goers. They consider the karaoke centre as a good recreational facility for them to rejoice once a week or month, after tiring office work and household chores.

While Kinjom is enjoying a brisk business today, there is this growing concern that it is not going to last very long. Another Karaoke bar was also opened in the middle of the town just recently, and like most business ideas in the country, many will follow suit.
