TashiCell covers 20 Dzongkhags

A little over four years and Tashi InfoComm limited has achieved mobile network in all 20 dzonkhags. TashiCell’s Chiarman, Wangchuk, during a press conference today, said TashiCell has services not only to all the Dzongkhag headquarters but also in almost all the satellite towns, gewogs and chiwogs. The last Dzongkhag to be connected was Lhuentse last month.

TashiCell, Bhutan’s second largest cell company has its core network in Thimphu. It has constructed international and domestic transmission network over optical fiber, satellite and radio and now has a total of 190 transmission stations spread across the length and breadth of the country. Other includes customer care centers in 11 locations and 2,432 outlets among others.

The Managing Director of Tashi InfoComm Ltd, Tashi Tshering, said works were completed ahead of time as per the mandate set in the license. According to the license, they had to cover 20 Dzongkhags by October 2013.

 “Now our immediate plan is to roll out 3G network.  Our target is to start it by second quarter next year. Now we have network nationwide, we can think value added services by extending better customer services and also bringing in more services which is based on internet and data services,” said the Managing Director.

The company is said to have spent Nu.2.5 million for the cellular connectivity. TashiCell was first launched in April 2008. As of today, there are 1, 33,000 active TashiCell users across the country.
