District Hospital road in need of maintenance, Trongsa

In Trongsa, a stretch of the road leading to the district hospital is in dire need of maintenance. Commuters and people residing along the road complain of the road’s worsening condition. Riddled with potholes, it becomes inconvenient during the rainy season, especially for the school going children and those visiting the hospital.

The 200-metre-long road which stretches from Sherubling Primary School is one of the busiest roads in Trongsa. Every day, at least thirty vehicles are on this road. Taxis, ambulances and private vehicles coming to pick up and drop off their children at Sherubling Central School and Sherubling Primary School use the road including people visiting the hospital.

They said the road has developed potholes along several stretches and its condition had worsened in the last few years.

“The vehicles driving at high-speed splash water on us. We would be grateful if at least the potholes could be filled immediately. As the road is similar to a highway, more people use it,” said Dechen Zangmo, a Resident of Sherubling.

“As our shops are all located along the road, the customers dirty our shops with mud when it rains. Similarly, during sunny days, we need to continuously sprinkle water on the road to settle the dust,” added Dechen, a shopkeeper in Sherubling.

They also claim that since the town area is narrow without much hope for widening, children are susceptible to road accidents.

Meanwhile, the district administration said the resurfacing and blacktopping of the road is scheduled for this July.

Until then, commuters and residents will have to bear the inconveniences.
