The Gelephu Gewog Centre road in Sarpang is in a bad state. Commuters and residents alike say the gewog administration needs to repair the dilapidated road immediately.

People use the one-kilometre road to go to the gewog office and Pelrithang Higher Secondary School. But past few months, travelling along the road has become inconvenient. Due to a lack of regular repair and maintenance works, the road is filled with potholes today. Commuters say the gewog administration should carry out maintenances before it becomes inaccessible.

“The road has been damaged by heavy vehicles. Now it is very difficult to drive along this road, especially for a small vehicle,” said Bolanath Adikhari, a taxi driver in Gelephu.

“The road is used by heavy vehicles and it has caused potholes. We have to visit the gewog office sometimes. It is inconvenient. I think, they should restrict heavy vehicles from using the road,” said Dinanath Nepal, in Gelephu.

The gewog office said they have allocated about Nu 3 M for road maintenance. The maintenance works will be carried out in the next financial year.

“We plan to widen the road and construct drains along the road. We plan to start the work very soon. We have allotted the fund and waiting for June closing. After that, we will start the work,” said Gelephu Gup Prem Prasad Katel.

The Gewog Centre road was blacktopped in 2018.
