The lack of parking space in Trongsa town is a cause of concern for the residents there. One has to do several rounds around the town to find a space to park the car, making it a nerve-wracking ordeal. But this will not be an issue in the future. The district administration is going to construct the much-awaited multi-level parking facility this June.

The four-storied car park drawing was approved by the works and human settlement ministry. As per the structural design, the ground floor is meant to accommodate heavy vehicles such as six buses, and two firefighting trucks.

The first and second floors will be designated for the parking of about 30 light vehicles. The top-most or the fourth floor will also have the capacity to park another 30 light vehicles.

“There will be also a conference hall on the top floor, which can accommodate about 50 heads. It will also house the RSTA office and restroom for the commuters,” highlighted Trongsa Dzongda, Phub Rinzin.

Its construction site has been identified near the farmers’ market in the town and works will be carried out in a phase-wise manner.

“Normally, the dzongkhag receives a budget for a project to be completed within a year. And this is quite challenging sometimes when the project is big. So, the construction of the multi-level carpark here has to be carried out on a spillover basis,” explained the Trongsa Dzongda.

As of now, there is no definite timeline set for the completion. However, the district administration said, it will take a couple of years to complete the entire work.

Once complete, the residents, business entities and regular commuters in the district can heave a sigh of relief. Currently, the town is faced with acute parking congestion.

The Nu 50 M worth mega parking project would be by far, the biggest public infrastructure in Trongsa.
