After struggling for almost a decade without adequate drinking water, the residents of Patshaling-Maed and Tsakaling villages of Patshaling Gewog in Tsirang now have a reliable drinking water supply. The De-Suung National Service Water Project handed over the new water supply for the residents of the two villages yesterday. It will benefit 46 households in the two communities.

The reservoir tank and water taps in Tsakaling have remained dry until the De-Suung National Service Water Project handed over the new water supply to the residents.

The old water supply became completely dysfunctional in 2013. The residents have, since then, been managing water from a stream that is not clean or enough for over 20 households in the village.

But now, every household in Tsakaling has an abundant supply of drinking water.

“The previous water supply became completely unreliable. Since then we have been relying on a stream located nearby our community. But now we are hopeful of having adequate water from the new water supply,” said Chengala, a resident of Tsakaling.

“Due to acute drinking water shortage, my family even took a loan and bought water pipes to draw water supply. Now, the reliable water supply will benefit us immensely. We can wash our clothes and kitchen utensils every day,” said Tashi Wangmo, another resident.

Meanwhile, for 25 households of Patshaling-Maed chiwog, the previous water supply was scanty, especially during the dry season.

“We used to face acute drinking water shortages, especially during late winter. But now, we won’t be facing any drinking water shortage. We can also grow vegetables if we have excess water,” said Pema Gyeltshen, a resident of Patshaling-Maed.

The water project initially expected to cost over Nu 5 M was completed at Nu 2.8 M. The new water supply has brought smiles to the faces of both young and old.
