Maintenance of the Ueling-Mangdephu farm road has delighted the people in Nubi Gewog. The farm road was unusable especially during summer making it difficult for farmers to market their produce. The road improvement works which started in January last year will be completed by April this year.

Travelling out of their homes for the people of Semji, Gagar, Karshong and Jongthang villages of Nubi Gewog was tiring and inconvenient. It would usually take them around four hours to drive to Trongsa town. Only vehicles with four-wheel drive could drive through the 30-kilometre road that is filled with potholes.

The road has now been layered with Granular Sub Base (GSB) and drains have also been constructed along the road. The first package from Ueling till Karshong is complete.

“We couldn’t take our vegetables to the market. But now with the better road, we hope to transport our vegetables to the market,” said Kinley Yangzom, a resident of Karshong.

“It was hard to ply on this road except for Tractors. Even the boleros and trucks had a difficult time. But the condition of the road has improved now,” said Kinley, a taxi driver.

“Getting a lift in a vehicle was hard when going to school since there weren’t any vehicles on the road before. But now, we see plenty of vehicles,” said Sonam Tobgay, a student.

Initially, the dzongkhag office decided to maintain the road from Karshong to Jongthang but is now working on the road from Jongthang to Mangdephu as well. Works on only three kilometres are left along with the construction of drains.

The government allocated Nu 60 M last year for the project. The works are expected to be complete by April.
