Trongsa hospital has been receiving an increasing number of patients visiting the hospital with Tuberculosis (TB) like symptoms in recent days. Most of the visitors are from Sherubling Higher Secondary School.

The students started visiting the hospital after five fellow students were diagnosed with Tuberculosis. About four to five students from Sherubling Higher Secondary School visits the hospital every day.

In the past, the hospital used to get only one to two suspected cases in a week.

“Nobody should panic because firstly TB is preventable disease and also we have all facility to detect the disease and we are prepared to contain it,” said Dr.Tashi Wangchuk.

The laboratory officials said the first case of TB among the students was detected on August 9. Dr.Tashi Wangchuk said the cause could probably be poor diet.

“I advise them to keep their rooms well ventilated for the circulation of clean air. I have also suggested them to wear the mask and take food on time,” said the doctor.

The health officials from Trongsa hospital also conducted a health sensitisation workshop to the students.

Over 67 suspected cases of TB were tested in Trongsa hospital from January till August this year.
