Tsirang district court, on Wednesday, sentenced a 38-year-old man from Tsirang to a concurrent prison term of 16 years in connection with the rape of an eight-year-old boy studying in one of schools in Tsirang. The convict is charged with unnatural sex, statutory rape and endangerment of child.

The court also ordered the convict to pay compensation of over Nu 366,918 to the victim within six months from the date of the judgment.

The incident occurred in March this year, around 400-metres from the school campus when the victim was returning home from  school. The victim was alone on that day. The boy complained about the incident to his grandfather. The Tsirang police arrested the convict from his house that evening after the school authority informed about the incident. The medical report also confirmed the rape.

Meanwhile, the victim’s mother told BBS that her son couldn’t continue his study this year since he require constant counselling  following the incident. However, she is planning to let her son continue his education from next year in a different school.
