The oxygen plant at Montanga Industrial Park in Samdrup Jongkhar is ready to export liquid oxygen to India. Liquid oxygen is crucial for the treatment of severe COVID-19 patients since the disease affects lung functioning. It helps them breathe. The supply is expected to help India in its fight against coronavirus.

The oxygen plant was commissioned today. It will produce 40 tonnes of liquid oxygen daily which will be exported to the neighbouring Indian state of Assam from next week.

The oxygen supply will augment India’s efforts to save lives and win the fight against COVID-19.

According to a press release from the SD Cryogenic Gases Pvt Ltd, this would not have been possible amid the pandemic without the visionary leadership of His Majesty. While the pandemic disrupted the supply chains of almost all the industries, SD Cryogenics Plant was prioritised with the safe import of required human resources and materials to start production.

Motanga-based SD Cryogenic Gases Private Limited is a Foreign Direct Investment or FDI company with a domestic investment of 51 per cent by M/s SD Cryogenics and an FDI component of 49 per cent from Meghalaya Oxygen Private Limited, an Assam based Indian Company.

The construction of the production plant began in 2019 and was supposed to complete last year. But the COVID-19 pandemic affected its completion.

Kinley Wangchuk, Samdrup Jongkhar.
