City addressing system gets underway

Without a proper address, locating an exact place in Thimphu has always been difficult and challenging. To make this easier, the Bhutan Postal Corporation and the Thimphu Thromde is coming up with city addressing system.  As a pilot project, they are setting up mailboxes in identified areas.

They have started to install mailboxes in the buildings along the Norzin Lam.   Mailboxes will be installed in all buildings along the Norzin Lam, Wozin Lam and Chang Lam within a month’s time.

With the installation of the mailboxes, it will help improve the service delivery with much easier address system. “In times of emergencies a particular person can be contacted by giving the reference of the particular building number and the person can be easily contacted,” said  Sonam Tobgay, Dy. Managing Director of the Bhutan Post.

There are also plans to carry out similar project in other Thromdes in near future.

“Whatever is addressed to individual can be directly collected from their own buildings, from their individual’s boxes. They don’t have to collect from their individuals offices. It will make things easier,” said Minjur Dorji, Executive Secretary, Thimphu Thromde
