Monggar Police arrested a 25-year-old man on Monday for the alleged rape of a minor. The incident reportedly occurred last week. According to a source, the man was supposedly having an affair with the 13-year-old girl, a student in one of the schools in Monggar. When the issue came to the notice of the school, it was reported to the parents of the girl and the police.
The case is under investigation and police are also waiting for the medical report to confirm the sexual assault.
According to the Penal Code of Bhutan, the rape of a child above the age of twelve years is a felony of the second degree with a prison term of nine years to 15 years.
