Teacher fired over relationship with student, Zhemgang

A 30-year-old regular contract teacher in one of the schools in Zhemgang was recently terminated for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with one of his students. The Dzongkhag Human Resource Committee terminated his employment on the ground of misconduct and breach of contract terms and conditions.

The case first came to the notice of the school on July 16 after two class X girls went missing from the hostel at around 1 am. The girls, both aged 18 years, returned after 3 am. An inquiry by the matron revealed that the girls went to the teacher’s quarter. While one of the girls went to visit the teacher, the other girl went as a friend to reach her there. The school has temporarily sent the girl, who had an affair with the teacher, home.

The teacher is also accused of manipulating test marks and favouring the girl over other students. The girl has allegedly confessed to having a relationship with the teacher since early this year. However, both have denied having any physical relationship.
