Police in Zhemgang detained the Mangmi of Shingkhar Gewog for allegedly forging signatures and falsely claiming rural life insurance of a woman who is still alive.
According to sources, the case surfaced last year after family members seeking to obtain a census status certificate found that their mother was reflected as dead in the census. Later, the family members filed a written complaint with the authorities for fraudulent practices and falsely claiming the life insurance policy of an alive person.
The Dzongkhag Authority has forwarded the case to the police for further investigation a few days ago.
