The completion of the first artificial turf, which is being built at the Changlimithang stadium in Thimphu, will need another two months to complete. It is the laying of artificial grass which is holding up the project.

The artificial turf which will be used by the Bhutanese football enthusiasts and national football players, was supposed to be complete by June this year.

The General Secretary of the Bhutan Football Federation, Ugyen Wangchhuk, said the artificial grass has arrived in Kolkata, India.

The artificial grass which was purchased from the Netherlands will take about a month to arrive it the country from Kolkata.

“We had a talk with the consultant and he was saying it would take three months. So we presumed that it would finish at least by end of June,” said Ugyen Wangchhuk. However, he said, it took some time to arrive in Kolkata. “We expect the ground to be complete by August end.”

The total cost of the artificial turf, borne solely by FIFA, is US$ 9,00,000.

The fund is also for two more small artificial pitches at the Changjiji football ground and Changlimithang stadium.
