Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering said that the government upon the command of His Majesty The King delivered vaccines to Bhutanese living in countries where the AstraZeneca vaccine is approved. This was said in answer to the Member of Parliament (MP) of Chhumig-Ura, Karma Wangchuk’s question. During the question hour session of the national assembly yesterday, the MP questioned the status of vaccination among Bhutanese residing abroad. He said many Bhutanese residing abroad still did not receive the vaccine.

“We are only allowed to deliver the AstraZeneca vaccine in countries where the vaccine is approved. For example, the AstraZeneca vaccine is not approved in America. But we have talked with the Indian Embassy and sent over 60 doses to Bhutanese living in India. In Bangladesh, 77 doses of vaccines were sent. Similarly in Nepal, led by the former Opposition Leader, we have received the number of Bhutanese who did not get the vaccines and delivered 80 doses,” said Lyonchhen.
