A fire this morning completely razed a unit of girls dormitory of Monggar Higher Secondary School. The incident occurred at around 6.25. The students were in the classroom for morning study during the time of the incident except for a girl who was sick and inside the dormitory. She escaped unhurt.

There were four units in the building. All the belongings including books and beddings of the 48-bedded unit were lost to the blaze. However, the belongings of the other three units were rescued by police, De-suups and volunteers.

A short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire.

The structure was built in 1983.

The school management, the Office of the Gyaltshab in Gyalpozhing and the dzongkhag administration made necessary arrangements for the affected students. According to officials, the education sector will arrange for the books lost to the fire. Mattresses and bedsheets were arranged by the school management. Blankets and other clothes will be arranged by the dzongkhag kidu office and the office of Gyaltshab in Gyalpoizhing.
