Fifty-two households of Dorjitse and Woongchhiloo villages of Tareythang Gewog in Sarpang are relocated nearby gewog office. The villagers are given land substitute around the gewog office. This has put their fear of attack from wild animals to rest. Dorjitse is around 10 kilometres and Woongchhiloo is about five kilometres away from the gewog office.

Happy with the relocation some even started construction in the newly acquired land while some are processing construction works. “We are happy to be relocated near the gewog office and hospital. We no longer face problem like in the past,” said Prakash Tirwa relocated from Woongchhiloo village.

“We now have road nearby and it will be convenient for us to attend meetings in the gewog. We are happy as we will have access to better facilities including electricity,” added Man Badhur Rai relocated from Doejitse village.

“At Dorjitse, there was a threat of wild animal attack during monsoon when they visit gewog office and hospital. Also, they lived in a scattered settlement in thick forest at Dorjitse and could hardly make it to our neighbour’s place or start farming due to wild animal attack,” said Dhanman Gurung, the Tareythang Gewog’s Mangmi.

A total of 118 acres of the government land nearby the gewog office are being cleared as a land substitute to relocate villagers of Dorjitse and Woongchhiloo.
