A restrictive reopening is initiated in Samdrup Jongkhar town from today. The town underwent a 72-hour lockdown on May 7 to assess the risk and contain the community spread of COVID-19 after a policeman tested positive from the community. The district COVID-19 task force has activated the zoning system in the town.

According to a notification from the Eastern COVID-19 Task Force, a member each from the household is allowed to come out from the house by using the movement pass for essentials. However, no movement of vehicles will be allowed. Similarly, all schools, offices and institutions will remain closed.

Meanwhile, three contacts of the policeman, who tested positive on May 6, tested positive today. Samdrup Jongkhar town has now recorded 13 cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak on May 3.
