The highlanders of Dhur village in Bumthang speak an age-old dialect called Drokha or Brokpai Kha which is spoken nowhere else in the country. The origin of the dialect dates back almost a thousand years. Locals attribute its origin to a Tibetan yogi who visited the village in the 11th century. Besides Drokha, today, the villagers of Dhur also speak Dzongkha and Bumthap Kha. In this story, two men from Dhur share the history of the language and their concerns over its future.
