His Majesty The King arrived in Samdrup Jongkhar yesterday from Phuentshogling. A lockdown is in place in Samdrup Jongkhar since Friday after a COVID-19 positive case was detected in the community. His Majesty granted Audience to the Eastern COVID-19 Task Force in Samdrup Jongkhar upon arrival.

Since April 29th, His Majesty was in Phuentshogling, where there is an ongoing lockdown. While in Phuentshogling, His Majesty granted several Audiences to the Southern COVID-19 Task Force, which is based in Phuentshogling.

In the discussions with the task force, His Majesty reviewed the measures in place to address various issues related to the pandemic in patrolling borders, supply of essential goods, security of quarantine centres, and our overall preparedness to deal with future outbreaks and other difficulties that the pandemic will cause.

His Majesty conveyed appreciation to the people of Phuentshogling for their support of all measures to control the outbreak in Phuentshogling and in adhering to the lockdown as dutiful citizens, despite the difficulties it poses to their everyday life.

Reminding the task force that the battle is far from over, His Majesty asked them to go forward with greater attentiveness and concern than ever before. “Our best strategy is to be prepared for the worst,” His Majesty said.

His Majesty inspected the mass testing in Phuentshogling from April 30 to May 1st.

His Majesty also visited the entire border being patrolled by teams of armed force personnel and DeSuups. His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck and Health Minister Dechen Wangmo accompanied His Majesty.
