The residents of Gyalpozhing in Monggar are requesting a boarding facility at the Gylapozhing Higher Secondary School, the only high school in the community. The school is seeing an increasing number of students every year due to the rapid socio-economic development taking place in the Gyalpozhing and Lingmethang area. Moreover, since the school does not provide boarding facilities, there are many students who walk for hours to reach school.

The school currently has around 700 students.

Dawa Seldon, a resident in Gyalpozhing said, “As of now, we don’t have any boarding schools in Gyalpozhing and other nearby schools. If we set up Gyalpozhing Higher Secondary School into a boarding school, it is going to benefit the children and parents living nearby and also the children of Saling and Drepoong Gewogs. ”

“There are many students studying in classes pre-primary till class XII in the school.  So we would be grateful if we have a boarding school,” said Dorji, another resident in Gyalpozhing.

Kurichhu Lower Secondary School was upgraded into Gyalpozhing Higher Secondary School in 2019 after Gyelpozhing central school was shut down.

During the recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu, the local leaders proposed to use the staff quarter of Kurichu Hydropower plant as temporary hostels and the house decided to discuss with the Management of the hydropower plant.

The house decided to submit a copy of the Dzongkhag Tshogdu resolution to the Education Ministry.
