The Weringla Dungkhag Court under Monggar sentenced the Tshogpa of Chhimoong chiwog under Chhimoong Gewog in Pema Gatshel and a 50-year-old man also from Pema Gatshel to three months in prison for breaching COVID-19 protocols during the second nationwide lockdown. The judgment was passed yesterday.

The Tshogpa and his friend were found guilty of violating the lockdown protocols in January this year when they travelled from Pema Gatshel Dzongkhag to Yangbari chiwog under Gongdue Gewog in Monggar. They went there to get back more than Nu 150,000 from the Tshogpa’s friend. They are convicted of breaching public order and tranquillity under section 448 of the Penal Code of Bhutan.

They can, however, pay in lieu of the prison term. They can also appeal to the District Court if unsatisfied with the judgment passed by the Dungkhag Court within ten days from the day of the judgment.
