Commuters along the Damphu-Changchey road can expect a better ride soon. The Tsirang district administration started blacktopping the 10-kilometre road which was left without major maintenance for decades.

The road leading towards Changchey begins from Damphu Central School. It connects seven gewogs of Tsirang to the Dzongkhag Administration. According to elderly people in town, the road was first blacktopped some three decades ago and it only saw some minor maintenance works since then.

The blacktopping work began recently and is expected to be complete by the end of this month. Once complete, it is expected to reduce travel time for people visiting Damphu town.

“The road condition improved after maintenance around eight years ago. But the condition worsened a few years later and it is damaging vehicles. But now with resurfacing works ongoing, the road condition is improving,” said Sonam Drukpa from Kilkhorthang Gewog.

“Earlier, the road condition was very bad and it used to consume more fuel travelling along this road. We are grateful to the government for road improvement works. The improved road will provide a smooth ride to both driver and passengers,” added Tek Bir Kararia, from Semjong Gewog,

Meanwhile, the traffic is diverted through one of the bypasses for the time being during working hours. The government of India financed the project through the Small Development Project.
