Monggar police, on the 9th January 2021, registered two cases of breach of lockdown protocols. While one case involves 16 men who played archery during the Nyilo, another involves eight women, who played khuru during the lockdown.

In the first case, the Ngatshang Gewog COVID-19 task force discovered that 16 men, in three groups, were involved in archery matches – two groups in Ngatshang Chiwog and the third group in Pelshoop Chiwog, last Saturday.

One of the defaulters is the Ngatshang Tshogpa.

Likewise, the other case involves a group of eight women who reportedly played khuru in Saling Gewog during the lockdown. However, the women have denied the charges of breach of lockdown protocols.

The cases surfaced after the dzongdag, who is also the Incident Commander of the Dzongkhag COVID 19 Taskforce received a written complaint letter. The taskforce forwarded the cases to the police which will be investigated soon.

Meanwhile, the Ngatshang Gup, Dorji Leki, maintains that people were advocated on the lockdown protocols and that they were aware of the Dos and Don’ts.

If found guilty, the defaulters will be charged for Criminal Nuisance under Section 410 and Breach of Public Order and Tranquility under Section 448 of the Penal Code of Bhutan
