To facilitate easy market access for perishable farm produce during the lockdown, the Dorokha Dungkhag in Samtse helped reach 350 cartoons of eggs and other dairy products to Phuentshogling and Haa in the past two days.

The Dungkhag produces over a million ngultrum worth of eggs and dairy products every week and relies on the market in Samtse, Phuentshogling, and Thimphu.

Today, the Dungkhag sent 6,000 balls of cheese and close to 300 kilograms of butter to Haa. The goods were transshipped at Phuchena, the Haa-Samtse border.

Similarly, the Dungkhag reached over 300 cartons of eggs, 1,000 balls of cheese, and 200 kilograms of butter to Phuentshogling yesterday. The Dorokha Dungpa said the move is aimed at reducing vehicle movement during the nationwide lockdown.

“If we send everyone to towns just because they have something to sell, we risk bringing the coronavirus to our Dungkhag. The more people travel, the greater the issues related to it. So, we wanted to reduce vehicle and people moving as much as possible,” said Karma Jurmi, Senior Dungpa of Dorokha Dungkhag.

The Dungkhag facilitated similar arrangements during the nationwide lockdown last summer.

Meanwhile, farmers from Lamjosa village in Norboogang Gewog contributed 200 kilograms of vegetables to personnel on border duty in the gewog, today. The villagers distributed spinach, pumpkin, ginger, chayote, and ground apple to eight outposts along the border.
