Samtse police arrested a 44-year-old man from Rinchhenphu in Yoeseltse Gewog last night on suspicion of illegally crossing the border and re-entering.

The police also found about 15 pieces of tobacco leaves, commonly known as surti pata from his home. The tobacco leaves cannot be found in the country.

”The leaves are not available in the country, and can only be brought from across the border,’’ said Ganga Prasad Limboo, the Yoeseltse Gup.

The suspicion arose when the police came to know that the man was not home during the lockdown.

He is now in quarantine and will be tested for coronavirus in a few days.

According to a source, the suspect denied crossing over to India.
