Suung Joen, the communication App is yet to be developed as the government failed to develop it even today. Maenbi_Tsaenkhar’s Member of Parliament (MP) Choki Gyeltshen questioned the government on the status of the App and Free Wifi today in the question hour session of the National Assembly. The Information and Communications Minister, Karma Donnen Wangdi said the Ministry had to delay the work and reprioritise developing other information management systems.

Developing Suung Joen, a free communication App was one of the 25 pledges to be delivered in 120 days by the government. Even after completion of two years in office by the government, the App is yet to be developed. To this effect, the Maenbi-Tsaenkhar MP questioned the government on the status of the App.

“Everyone knows the importance of having such an app. It was initially planned to develop in 120 days. Now it has been over two years. The people are still waiting for the App,” said Choki Gyeltshen, the Maenbi-Tsaenkhar MP.

To his response, Information and Communications Minister Karma Donnen Wangdi said the works got delayed as the Ministry had to reprioritise development of some of the information management systems.

“Amid the pandemic, the Ministry had to come up with many urgent information management system apps. That is why we had to delay the development of the Suung Joen App in order to develop those urgent applications. And we were able to develop 10 such important Apps. And in order to develop such systems, we need enough technical experts which we don’t have. It is a huge problem,” Lyonpo informed the House.

Some of the information systems developed are Druk Trace App, CPMS, and vegetable marketing information system for the Agriculture Ministry. Meanwhile, the Information and Communications Ministry plans to explore other viable options available to develop the App and put it up in the Lhengye Zhungtshog for further discussions.
