The United Nations honoured Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck as the individual laureate for United Nations Population Award 2020. The award is in recognition of Her Majesty The Gyalyum’s outstanding contribution to raising awareness and devising solutions to population and reproductive health issues.

Her Majesty is also the longest-serving United Nations Population Fund Goodwill Ambassador to Bhutan for more than 20 years. The formal presentation of the award will take place virtually next month. The UN Population Award is the most prestigious award in the field of reproductive health and population given annually.

The United Nations General Assembly established the award in 1981 and was first presented in 1983.
