Two Desuups injured in an unusual accident in Babesa, Thimphu yesterday were airlifted to Delhi this morning for further treatment. The accident happened at around 04.25 in the evening yesterday at the old BoB area in Babesa.

A 25-year-old and a 33-year-old female Desuups were hit by a Tata Hilux pick-up truck when they were crossing the road. They were treated in the national referral hospital. As per the Jigme Dorji National Referral Hospital, the 25-year-old woman suffered polytrauma. Polytrauma occurs when a person experiences injuries to multiple body parts and organ systems as the result of a single traumatic event. The 33-year-old, however, suffered a minor injury and a lung injury.  The 25-year-old is an employee in Druk Tsemzo and 33-year-old a tourist guide.

The truck was parked about 100 metres above the site of the accident. According to a source, the driver started the vehicle and came out to remove the stone from under the tyre and before he could get in, the driverless truck sped downward around 102 feet and ran over the two female Desuups before hitting the parked vehicles near a building.
