The body recovered from Kurichhu reservoir yesterday is now identified as the 49-year-old mother who was washed away by the flash flood in Lingabee, Gangzur in Lhuentse on 25th July and not of that her 23-year-old pregnant daughter’s.
Relatives presumed it to be the pregnant daughter yesterday since the body was bloated and the face beyond recognition. They only realized the mix-up when they requested health officials to do caesarean on the body before cremation (a belief that unborn and infants can’t be cremated).
In a tragic incident on 25th July, the deceased and her 23-year-old pregnant daughter were washed away while trying to escape the flash flood. However, the daughter is still missing. The flashflood also damaged crops and washed away livestock belonging to the deceased’s family.
