The roadblock at Boxcutting along the Gelegphu – Zhemgang highway is now cleared and the road opened to traffic after almost four days. The road remained closed to traffic after about 40-metre road width was completely washed away last Friday.

Officials from the Department of Roads have been working towards restoring the road ever since. According to them, they even sacrificed their weekends to restore the road so that people stranded at Gelegphu and Jigme Chhoeling can get to their homes.

Officials say continuous rainfall for over a week has turned the area prone to landslide at Boxcutting. It has become a daunting task for the officials to keep the road open to traffic at all times because after completing the clearing work at block sites, the road gets blocked t another site. They are now expecting frequent roadblocks at Boxcutting for the whole monsoon season.

Meanwhile, a total of three excavators are deployed permanently at the site for restoring the road and clearing the blockages.
