Monks under Gasa Dzongkhag Rabdey are being trained to grow oyster mushroom to achieve self-sufficiency in vegetable production. The training conducted yesterday is first of its kind for the monk body in the dzongkhag.

According to the Dzongkhag Agriculture Officer, this training would benefit the monk body to produce their own mushroom and supplement market deficiency. Moreover, he says the oyster mushroom cultivation is much more friendly with the religion, as it does not require open-field works where committing sins is inevitable. The training was given as per the willingness of the monk body.

The Dzongkhag Agriculture Sector is focusing on such training with the aim to provide nutritional supplement and fulfilling the self-sufficiency of vegetable production in the dzongkhag.

Similar training was also given to the police force and their family in the dzongkhag recently.
