Samdrup Jongkhar police arrested three men in connection with the smuggling of tobacco products yesterday.

The suspects have in their possession 930 packets of chewing tobacco and 704 sticks of cigarettes. They were arrested from one of the hotels in Samdrup Jongkhar. According to a source, they will now undergo the mandatory 21-day quarantine on their own expenses since they came into direct contact with the products without following the import SOPs.

Police will investigate the case in details once they complete the quarantine period. All three suspects are from Trashi Yangtse.

Meanwhile, police have also found 1,434 packets of chewing tobacco, 20 packets of cigarettes and 28 bundles of bedi along the Dungsamchhu at 3 kilometres away from Samdrup Jongkhar town yesterday. The tobacco products were hidden in that area for someone to collect. The suspect(s) is still at large.
