The Thimphu District Court sentenced four men aged 30 to 37 years to 15 months in prison for gambling yesterday.

The men were arrested in April while they were gambling in a restaurant in Thimphu town, following a tip off. They were arrested along with their cards and Nu.1050.

The judgment states that the convicts had also violated the government’s social gathering restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. They were awarded four months imprisonment for gambling and the highest prison term of petty misdemeanour of 11 months each as per the Supreme Court’s order for violating the government’s order.

The convicts can pay money in lieu of their prison terms.
