Wangdue Phodrang District Court sentenced a 45-year-old man from Nyishog Gewog to nine years in prison for voluntary manslaughter. The judgment passed yesterday also ordered the culprit to pay a compensation Nu 492,875 to the family of the deceased within three months from the day of Judgment.

According to the judgment, the convict stabbed a 50-year-old man from the same gewog to death with a knife while they were waiting outside the Gewog Office for a decision. The convict and the deceased were settling an extramarital affair at the gewog office.

However, the investigation carried out by the gewog could not establish any affair as alleged by the convict. The gewog office was preparing an agreement for the parties to come to a compromise when the incident occurred.

They can appeal to the high court if they are not satisfied with the judgment within 10 working days.
