Areca nut farmers in Sarpang have been affected by the border closure.

The farmers who normally begin their harvest in April, have been waiting for the border to open, to begin their harvests this year.

Areca nut farming is one of the main sources of cash income for farmers in the dzongkhag.

While the government has stepped in and arranged for three truckloads of exports to India from May 11, farmers are worried about the impact of delayed harvest on the next season, and a drop of almost 50% on the price currently being offered to them.
