Amid stories of poultry farms shutting down in the country, there is one poultry farm, which has seen huge success after sailing through some initial struggles.

The privately owned Nuggo Poultry Farm in Sergithang, Tsirang is one of the leading producers of eggs in Tsirang and nearby districts.

The farm, which was started with only 50 chicks in 2008, was closed for sometime when a large number of birds died due to an illness. But the farm came back stronger with more birds and today has over 3,500 egg-laying hens.

Ashmaya Subba, the mother of the farm owner, said that her son started the farm with a loan of Nu.50,000. The farm makes a monthly profit of Nu.60,000.

The farm has wholesale shops in Wangdue Phodrang and Punakha and also supplies eggs to some of the central schools in these two districts.

Ashmaya Subba said that they do not have any problems with sale or with poultry feed and are currently doing good business.

With a promising market for eggs in the country, Nuggo Poultry Farm is planning to add another 15,000 birds to the farm.
