His Majesty the King awarded Kabneys and granted Audience to 15 Gups today. The Gups are from Gewogs where elections were not conducted during the first round of local government elections last year, for reasons such as lack of candidates and disputed results. All 205 Gewogs in Bhutan now have an elected Gup.
The awarding of Kabneys from the Throne symbolises the importance and autonomy of local governments.
