Druk Holding and Investments (DHI) is planning to propose over Nu 1.5bn for use to the government during the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) emergency. The contribution is in addition to the normal dividend and taxes, which DHI will remit to the Ministry of Finance in the coming months for FY 2019.

Similarly, the DHI is also looking at measures to tackle the situation through its subsidiary companies providing services such as Bhutan Power Corporation, Bhutan Telecom and Bank of Bhutan.

In a press release from DHI, It has ensured that availability of electricity, communication, air transport and banking services will be seen as critical to support the government to avoid the spread of the virus.

DHI subsidiary companies providing essential services, such as BPC, BT, BOB, Drukair and DGPC have activated their Standard Operating Procedures for business continuity for COVID-19 emergency situations.

They have also assured that the companies have stocked up all necessary spares and input materials to last for at least a year.

DHI has provided 4,000 face masks to the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital to support the health officials who are at the frontline in combating the disease.

Similarly, DHI is exploring and evaluating projects that could help jump-start the economy of the country during such times.

DHI is a commercial arm of the government which was established upon issuance of Royal Charter in 2007.
