A Bhutanese taxi was burnt by a mob completely in Kokrajhar, Assam, which is about 70 kilometres away from Gelephu. Carrying nine passengers, the bolero taxi was heading from Phuentsholing towards Samdrup Jongkhar yesterday when the incident occurred. No casualties have been reported.
The taxi had chosen to travel from Jaigoan, an Indian town bordering Phuentsholing, despite the declaration of strike in Assam and West Bengal.
Later, seven passengers with the help of Assam police were put on a train to drop at Rangia station, about 50 kilometres away from Samdrup Jongkhar.
The driver and two other passengers reached Gelephu safely at around 8:45 pm yesterday.
