The Gaeddu College students and the telecom officials have come to an agreement and withdrawn the complaint on the battery incident reported to the police last month. According to the telecom officials, they withdrew the case on the request of the students’ parents and also after thinking about the future of the students. However, the College has terminated two of three students involved in the incident.

According to the College Discipline Committee, the termination was not done based on the incident but for the violation of college norms. The students were terminated once in 2010 but were re-admitted on humanitarian grounds this year. After re-admission, they had signed a legal undertaking to avoid being involved in any in-disciplinary actions henceforth. Meanwhile, the student who had no past records of indiscipline was suspended until the semester exams begin in June.

The incident took place on the night of April 28 when three students got involved in a brawl with two telecom employees in the college campus.

According to the statement of the telecom officials to the police, the students provoked them by blocking their way while they were returning after a maintenance work. They said the students were drunk.

In a statement, one of the students said, the telecom officials flashed torch light directly on one of the students’ eyes. Even after several requests, the officials kept flashing the light, which led to exchange of few verbal abuses, and then to the brawl.

The student who suffered major bruises said there were four telecom officials who assaulted him. However, the telecom officials’ statement says only two of them were involved. But later, they corrected it as three.
