A man from Baedrog village of Kazhi Gewog in Wangdiphodrang was arrested by the Wangchuck Centennial National Park (WCNP) in Bumthang on Tuesday afternoon in connection with alleged musk deer poaching.

Foresters of WCNP stationed at Saephu Range Office in Wangdue Phodrang intercepted the 50-year-old man from above Taagsha village in Darkar Geowog during an anti-poaching patrolling. According to foresters, the man had nylon ropes usually used for setting musk deer traps and feathers of Himalayan monal pheasant in his backpack. The man was brought to the park’s head office in Bumthang on Wednesday and is currently under Bumthang police custody.

The WCNP has now arrested 7 men, all from Wangdiphodrang in a span of about 1 month in connection with musk deer poaching. Meanwhile, the park officials are currently on intensive high-mountain anti-musk deer patrolling due to rising cases of poaching in the park area.
