Dagana dzongkhag is exploring yet another adventure in Dagana. This time it is an honesty box where one can take vegetable/fruits and put the money in the box.

Vegetables and fruits are displayed in makeshift stalls with an instruction manual. One can take any commodities and put its worth money in the box. This is expected to save farmers’ time waiting for buyers and dedicate their time in other chores. As a pilot study, the honesty box is installed near Tashiding Gewog on the Dagana national highway.

The idea first started in Bajo, Wangdue Phodrang – an initiative of the Agriculture Research and Development Centre (ARDC) of Bajo. Its called an ‘Honest Shop’, the shop sells fruits and vegetables grown by the centre’s Integrated Horticulture Promotion Project. The project grows vegetables and fruits mainly for seeds and the ones that are not used for seeds are brought to the store for sale.

The shop is unique with no one manning it. A box is there for people to leave the money and there is no surveillance of any sort.
