The Samdrup Jongkhar- Trashigang highway widening works triggered a massive landslide last year damaging around 20 acres of land belonging to 13 households under Narphoong chiwog in Gomdar Gewog.

The villagers say they need replacements for their damaged lands.  According to them heavy landslide last year during August month has covered all their land with huge boulders, debris and mud making their arable land into non-arable.

They have written to Gomdar Gewog administration on this issue during the month of April this year.

“The Tshogpa has taken our application to gewog administration, once DANTAK tried to throw boulders and debris on our land, we stopped them from doing it. After that, with the heavy landslide, the lands were covered with boulders, debris and all,” said Pema Rinzin, from Narphoong chiwog.

“I have about three acres of land, I have planted bamboos, walnut and other saplings there. But the landslide has damaged all of them; its all covered with boulders and debris.  We have approached the gup but don’t know we will get replacements or not,” added Rinzin Wangdi,  also from Narphoong chiwog.

Meanwhile, Gomdar Gup Sonam Tshering says gewog administration has to verify it before approaching to relevant authorities.  According to him, the gewog administration has plans to visit and inspect the affected area soon and do the necessary follow up.
