Aimed at enhancing the sense of volunteerism, building teamwork and broadening the scouting horizon, a three-day community based scouting (CBS) training for the military officers was conducted in Phuentshogling this week.

The training which ended yesterday saw about twenty military officers from Royal Bhutan Police, Royal Body Guard and Royal Bhutan Army taking part in the event. They will use the skills learnt to engage the children of armed forces in scouting activities.

The CBS trained military personnel will take home skills which will help them in organizing programmes related to community development, social awareness and life skills education among others. The trained officers promised to take the scouting programme further.

The training for armed forces first started in 2015. Nearly hundred officers are trained so far. During the training, various activities on understanding mission and vision of scouts, understanding causes of youth issues, group discussions/ panel discussion and annual programme planning presentations were done.

Organised by the Bhutan scouts cultural education division, Department of youth and sports under Ministry of education with World Organisation of the Scout Movement and, Danish Scout and Guide Association as the International Partners, CBS is strongly established in Thimphu and Trashigang. There are plans to reach other dzongkhags too.

The CBS members also enjoy eligibility for various awards such as Service award, Gallantry award, President’s award and Golden Takin award.
