Personnel from PHPA1, RBP, DoR and Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag are clearing the loose boulders at Gewathang, between Wangdue Phodrang and Basochu where a bus accident claimed 8 lives last month.
The falling boulders pose a great danger to travellers especially during rainy season. Therefore, It’s being done as a mitigation measure to prevent further disaster in the near future.
It was decided to carry out these works following a field verification by the Dzongkhag Disaster Management Unit and Department of Road after the bus met an accident on 4th May 2019.
The works coordinated by PHPA1 and Dzongkhag Disaster Management Unit began at around 9:30 AM today and is expected to complete by 4 PM. However, authorities are allowing vehicles to ply with few minutes stop.
