With the record of Indian Pitta, Bhutan now has 744 bird species. The new bird species was spotted by one of the senior forest rangers, Tashi Tshering at Sukreti in Samtse on May 19.
The bird is also found in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The natural ecosystems and habitats of the species include wetlands and moist shrublands with dense undergrowth among others.
