The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bhutan Gerald James Daly presented his credentials to the Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering at Gyalyong Tshogkhang yesterday.

He is the first Resident Coordinator in Bhutan after the repositioning of the UN Development system which was adopted by the UN General Assembly, last year.

Prior to his current appointment, he was the Resident Representative of UNDP and UN Resident Coordinator in Thimphu. He had also served as WFP country director and representative in Thimphu.

He is from the Republic of Ireland.

Speaking to the media yesterday afternoon, the UN Resident coordinator in Bhutan, Gerald James Daly said UN agencies in the country will focus more on working together in areas of disaster preparedness and response, data and disability.

“The disability work is going to be lead by UNICEF, the disaster preparedness and Response work are being led by World Food Program. The data work will be lead by UNFPA. We will also be progressing into new areas, especially in the area of innovative finance, we have to find smarter ways to do innovative works.”

At present, there are 23 UN agencies in Bhutan.
