Phuentshogling Dungkhag Court sentenced a 27-year-old woman to eleven years in prison for abandoning an infant and rape of a minor. The judgement was passed yesterday.

The convict from Haa is sentenced to two years in prison for abandoning her newborn baby boy.

Initially, the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) charged the woman for the murder of her infant. However, during the trial, the court altered the charges due to lack of concrete evidence.

The woman denied throwing the baby from the window. She said that she had wrapped the baby in a towel and kept near the window since she gave birth to a stillborn baby. The incident happened in April last year in one of the hotels in Phuentshogling.

The court also sentenced the woman to another nine years in prison for rape of a child above 12 years of age.

According to the judgement, the woman had a physical relationship with the father of the baby, who was 16 years old in 2016.

The woman worked as a cleaner in one of the schools in Haa.
